Why 1000 × 1500?
Pinterest favours tall 2:3 pins, and 1000 x 1500 is the size Pinterest itself recommends. Taller pins can be truncated in the feed. Pinterest's own advice for square assets is to repurpose them with borders, which is exactly what Fit whole image, the default on this portrait page, does: a 1080 × 1080 square shrinks to 1000 × 1000 and gains a 250-pixel band of background colour above and below. A 3024 × 4032 phone portrait is already close to 2:3, so fitting it whole leaves bands of only about 83 pixels at the top and bottom, and Crop to fill instead trims about 62 pixels from each side of an 1125 × 1500 resize.
