Why 1200 × 627?

LinkedIn shows shared images and link previews at roughly 1.91:1. 1200 x 627 matches that without cropping. LinkedIn's photo rules are wider than this one shape: uploads can range from 3:1 to 4:5, must be at least 552 × 276 pixels, are recommended at 1080 pixels wide and are capped at 5 MB, and a photo outside that ratio range is centred and cropped by LinkedIn itself. Use this canvas when you want a landscape post or artwork that matches a link preview; a square or 4:5 photo can go up as it is. With Crop to fill, the default here, a 4032 × 3024 phone photo is scaled to 1200 × 900 and loses about 137 pixels from the top and the bottom, while a 1920 × 1080 slide loses only 24 pixels at each of those edges.

Before you upload

LinkedIn compresses aggressively. Flat colour and clear type survive it better than fine texture. A square 1080 × 1080 graphic is an awkward fit for this frame either way. Crop to fill enlarges it to 1200 × 1200 and cuts about 287 pixels from the top and the bottom, close to half of the design, while Fit whole image shrinks it to 627 × 627 with bands about 287 pixels wide at each side. For a text-heavy graphic, choose PNG output so the lettering is not smudged by one round of JPG compression here before LinkedIn applies its own, and check that the result line stays under the 5 MB upload cap. LinkedIn does not let you edit or resize a photo once the post is published, so look over the result preview on this page before you share it.

Source and verification

LinkedIn supports photo ratios from 3:1 to 4:5 and recommends at least 1080 pixels wide; 1200 by 627 is a practical 1.91:1 export. Check the LinkedIn Help guidance ↗.

Frequently asked questions

What size is linkedin post?

1200 × 627 pixels, an aspect ratio of 1.91:1. Add an image above and it is resized to exactly that in your browser.

What aspect ratio is linkedin post?

1.91:1. It is landscape, so this page starts on Crop to fill, which trims the top and bottom of a taller-shaped original; Fit whole image keeps all of it and pads the sides. Crops are always taken from the centre.

Which file format should I use for a LinkedIn post image?

JPG is the safest choice for photographs, and most platforms recompress uploads anyway. Use PNG for crisp flat graphics and text, and WebP when file size matters more than compatibility. No format keeps transparency here, because the resizer paints the background colour, white by default, behind every image.
