Why 960 × 540?
Discord recommends server banners at 960 x 540, a 16:9 canvas. Supplying that size avoids beginning with an undersized source image. Discord also accepts a 1920 × 1080 image and resizes it itself, so artwork that is already exactly 16:9 can go up as it is; this page earns its place when the source has another shape or you want a small, predictable file. Crop to fill is the default for this landscape canvas. A 4032 × 3024 phone photo is scaled to 960 × 720 and loses 90 pixels from the top and 90 from the bottom, while a 3024 × 4032 portrait shot keeps only its middle 42 per cent, because 370 pixels are cut from each end of a 960 × 1280 resize.
