How to Blur a Whole Image

Whole-image blur softens every pixel. Use it for a slide background, a mood layer or a draft that should not be the sharp original. Do not treat it as legal redaction.

How to use this page

  1. Choose an image.
  2. Set a radius: low for a light soften, higher for a wash of colour.
  3. Blur, inspect at full size, and download. Keep the sharp master.

Worked example: a soft hero behind white type

Resize to the hero width, blur until the subject no longer competes with the heading, then export. If you need a blocky look instead, use the pixelate tool.

What this job is for

The same radius looks weaker on a large photo than on a small one. Judge the preview, not the number alone. Resize to the final canvas first when the blur is for a specific slot.

Useful limits

Low blur can leave faces and text readable. Hidden pixels are not a privacy control.

The live tool behind this page is Blur Image. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
