Worked example: a JPG logo that must become PNG
A logo saved as JPG already has muddy edges. Converting to PNG keeps those muddy edges losslessly. If you still have a vector or a true PNG master, use that instead. If you next need a PDF page, PDF North can turn a clean raster into a one-page PDF locally.
What this job is for
Use PNG when an editor, print RIP or graphics tool demands it. Do not convert a photo to PNG to “improve quality” — the quality ceiling is the JPG you started with.
Useful limits
After you have a PNG, the PNG-to-WebP tool can make a smaller web copy while the PNG remains the edit master.
The live tool behind this page is JPG to PNG. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
Frequently asked questions
Will PNG look sharper than the JPG?
It will not recover compression blur. It will stop further JPG loss if you keep editing as PNG.
Why is the PNG bigger?
Lossless storage of photo noise takes space.
Does conversion upload?
No.
Need a PDF instead of a PNG?
Use PDF North’s JPG to PDF tool after you are happy with the image.
