How to Pick a Colour from an Image

Use the picker when a logo, UI or product must match a real pixel, not a guessed swatch. The click is mapped back to the original coordinates even if the preview is scaled down.

How to use this page

  1. Choose an image.
  2. Extract a dominant palette at the size you want.
  3. Click or tap a pixel to read HEX, RGB, HSL, alpha and coordinates, then copy a code.

Worked example: matching a brand blue from a PNG logo

Open the PNG, extract six colours, then click the centre of the blue mark. Copy HEX into CSS. If the file is a busy photo, crop to the swatch area first so the palette is not dominated by the background.

What this job is for

Antialiased edges are a mix of colours. Sample the flattest part of the mark. Browser-decoded values are not a spectrophotometer reading.

Useful limits

This tool does not export a new image. Close the tab to drop the decoded pixels from memory.

The live tool behind this page is Image Color Picker. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
