How to use this page
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.

- Create the result on this device and download the 640 × 480 file.
Worked example: a directory thumbnail from a modern photo
Crop to the face or product first at 4:3 using the crop tool if you need a precise box, then resize that crop to 640 × 480. A direct crop-to-fill from a 12-megapixel original also works if the subject is centred.
What this job is for
Wide phone photos lose a lot on the sides when cropped to 4:3 at only 640 pixels. Prefer this for small previews, not for print or hero images.
Useful limits
If the form also has a 50–100 KB cap, compress the 640 × 480 download afterwards. Do not compress the huge original down to 50 KB and then resize; you will have already discarded the wrong pixels.
The live tool behind this page is Image Resizer. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
Frequently asked questions
What ratio is 640 × 480?
4:3. It is not 16:9.
Why would anyone still want VGA?
Legacy upload filters, some hardware UIs and very small preview slots. Prefer a larger canvas when the host allows it.
Is processing local?
Yes. The VGA canvas is created in the browser.
