Worked example: a phone photo as a slide background
A 4000 × 3000 photo is 4:3, so a 16:9 crop will remove top and bottom. Choose crop-to-fill, place the subject in the middle of the original, resize, and check that faces are not on the cut line. For a Zoom-style background, keep faces out of the lower third where your camera tile sits.
What this job is for
Crop-to-fill covers the frame and trims overflow — best when the subject can lose edges. Fit-the-whole-image keeps every pixel and may add your background colour. Text near the extreme edges of a slide should stay inside a safe centre area.
Useful limits
This is a generic Full HD export, not a claim that every platform requires 1920 × 1080. YouTube custom thumbnails now recommend a larger 16:9 source; see the YouTube thumbnail size page when that is the job.
The live tool behind this page is Image Resizer. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
Frequently asked questions
What aspect ratio is 1920 × 1080?
16:9. A square or 4:3 original must be cropped or letterboxed to fit.
Will this stretch my photo?
Not if you use crop or fit. Exact-pixel stretch is what the generic resizer does when aspect lock is off.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The 1920 × 1080 canvas is drawn in this browser.
