How to use this page
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image in the workspace above.
- Keep JPG or WebP selected and confirm the target is 20 KB.
- Compress on this device, check the actual size, then download.
Worked example: a 12-megapixel selfie for a 20 KB avatar field
Crop to a tight head-and-shoulders square first, then compress that crop to 20 KB as WebP or JPG. If the result is a few hundred pixels wide and still soft, the field is too small for that photo. Do not keep lowering quality on the uncropped original — you will throw away the wrong pixels.
What this job is for
At 20 KB a camera photo will almost always lose pixels as well as quality. That is expected. Judge the preview at the size it will actually display — a 96-pixel avatar can survive; a full-width photo cannot. Crop to the face or icon first, then compress the crop.
Useful limits
PNG cannot aim at a KB target here. Twenty KB is not a website hero size and not a print size. Keep the original master. Sibling pages at 30 KB and 50 KB are slightly less harsh if the host will allow them.
The live tool behind this page is Image Compressor. It is the same local engine as the rest of Image Cosmos.
Frequently asked questions
Will the file be exactly 20 KB?
Almost never. The encoder searches for a result under the target, usually a little below 20 KB.
Why is the image so small in pixels?
Quality steps alone rarely reach 20 KB on a large photo, so the compressor also reduces dimensions. Crop first if you need a usable face.
Is the 20 KB file uploaded?
No. Encoding stays in this browser tab.
