How to use Add Watermark to Image
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Enter your watermark text and adjust its position, size, opacity, colour and angle.
- Add the watermark, preview the result and download the finished image.
Useful to know
For a visible but unobtrusive credit, start with 25–40% opacity in a corner. Use the tiled option when cropping the edges must not remove the mark.
Add a text watermark to a photo
A watermark can identify the owner of a photo, keep a brand name visible when an image is shared, or label a draft before it is approved. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP file, type the exact credit or notice you want to show, and then control where and how strongly the text appears. The finished image keeps the original pixel dimensions, so the tool does not stretch or crop the photo.
Choose position, opacity and text size
Corner positions work well for a photographer name, website address or social handle when you want the subject to remain clear. The centre position is more obvious and suits proofs or review copies. Text size is set as a percentage of the image width, which helps the watermark stay proportionate on both small and large photos. Start near 10% for short names, then reduce the size for a long web address or increase it for a short status such as DRAFT.
Opacity controls how transparent the watermark is. A setting around 25–40% is a practical starting point for a subtle credit, while a higher value makes ownership or review status harder to miss. White text is usually clear over dark areas and black text suits light areas. Preview the result before download because contrast changes across every photograph.
Tile a watermark across the image
The tiled option repeats the text across the full picture. It is useful for client proofs, property previews, product samples and other images where a single corner mark could be removed by cropping. Add a negative or positive angle to make the repeated pattern cover more of the frame. Keep the opacity lower for tiles so the picture remains readable.
Watermark photos without uploading them
The image is decoded, drawn and exported inside your browser. Image Cosmos does not send the selected file to its server or store a copy. This makes the tool suitable for unpublished work and private client proofs, subject to the security of your own device. Close the page when finished and keep the original unwatermarked file as your master copy.
Which output format should you choose?
JPG is a practical choice for photographs and usually produces a smaller download. PNG preserves transparency and sharp graphic edges but can create a larger file. WebP is useful for modern websites. Quality affects JPG and WebP; PNG is exported losslessly by the browser. If the finished image also needs a smaller file size, download it first and then use the image compressor. For exact dimensions, use the image resizer before adding the watermark so the text is sized for the final canvas.
Watermark text ideas
Common choices include a photographer or studio name, a business website, a social username, a copyright notice, DRAFT, SAMPLE, PROOF or CONFIDENTIAL. Only add marks to images you own or are authorised to edit. A visible watermark can communicate attribution or status, but it does not by itself register copyright or guarantee that an image cannot be copied.
